Introducing Jules…
In 2006 after completing my degree at Cardiff Uni in Marketing and Journalism I landed my first proper job on the Admiral Graduate Scheme. After spending time moving across different teams in the group, I finally found the place I wanted to stay, and that was at Confused.com.
Flash forward 15 years and I have been lucky enough to work in a variety of roles across the marketing team. After learning so much about the well-known digital brand and how to successfully utilise a range of marketing channels, I decided it was time to use my skills to help other businesses grow.
My experience at Confused.com (most recent first):
Marketing Planning Manager: A key part of the marketing team, responsible for driving projects and developments forward in the business. Working closely with all marketing channels to create and execute strategic plans to deadlines.
Programmatic Advertising Manager: Managing marketing budgets of £1m+ and responsible for growing performance-based online display (DR) activity across multiple platforms and products.
Affiliate Marketing Manager: Leading and managing the affiliate marketing team and implementing a multi-million pound strategy.
Developing and managing the launch of affiliate programs for a number of key products and establishing strong relationships with influential partners like Martin Lewis (MSE) and Cashback sites.
Email Campaign Manager: Managing a wide range of direct marketing campaigns to existing customers, focusing on email, DM, SMS and Social. Making sure the customer database is correctly segmented for targeted marketing activities and managing external stakeholders to maximise eCRM systems and automation.
Developing and implementing CRM strategies to drive key KPIs (Retention, Engagement, Product Density).
PPC and SEO Marketing Executive: Supporting the performance marketing team with management of SEO, PPC and use of Google & Bing Webmaster Tools, as well as Adwords and Google Analytics. Carrying out technical SEO reviews and audits of the website and finding and implementing new opportunities.
(And had some children in between!)
Career Highlights
- Passing my IDM Postgraduate Diploma in Digital Marketing (PG Dip DigM).
- Winning ExchangWire.com’s Best In-House Programmatic Team award.
- Managed the first segmented newsletter campaign that had 60+ different versions and sent to 11 million customers.
- Led and promoted change management by integrating new processes and systems that created a more efficient way for Marketing and Wider business teams to work together.
- Launched and managed the Confused.com Marketing Graduate Scheme.
- Successfully ran a 4 part training workshop programme on Digital Marketing for students at USW.
Introducing AJ...
Starting out in Admiral as a claims investigator and liability specialist, I decided to make the jump over to their online only brand, Confused.com, and follow my digital interests. I instantly felt at home in what was at the time a very fast-paced digital startup company.
Marketing positions held over my 15 years of employment:
Affiliate Manager: Responsible for finding, managing and negotiating paid partnerships for Confused.com. Key achievements include averaging account growth of over 30% year-on-year over the 4 years I was in charge of the account. Being a digital only brand, my team managed multi-million pound budgets across a number of products and sectors.
In addition, in 2020, in conjunction with our agency Optimise media, we won the Best Managed Affiliate Agency in West Europe at the Performance Marketing Awards.
Email Marketing Executive: Design, code and send large email campaigns to a base of over 11 million customers. Highlights include managing key products such as motor and home insurance email lists. Each team member would send approx. 6 million emails a month.
PPC Marketing Assistant: Part of a small team managing the ad spend to ensure that we were driving traffic to the website at agreed cost per quote metrics. Highlights include being able to test and learn fast, with budgets of as much as £500k per month.
SEO Marketing Assistant: Managing the day to day SEO optimisations of key accounts for the business. Highlights include maintaining position 1-3 for all major key terms for the accounts that assigned to me.
Moving forward, I decided a slight career change was in order (15 years is long enough!) I now use my time, previous experience and knowledge to help others. Many businesses are experts in their fields, they just need a little help in the digital space to let others know about it. This is where DigitalFoxes step in.
